A New Year

At least that's what they tell me and who am I to say otherwise when the entire globe says it's so? Maybe we'll see more hope, happiness and a lot less of the merchants of doom and gloom this coming year. Maybe the powers that be will relent in their unceasing drive to hammer us down with bad news and will let us see some of the wonderful things that years like 2006 wrought, by not burying us in their usual torrent of dreck. I was looking around and saw a list of 50 Things We Know Now (That We Didn't Know This Time Last Year) 2006 Edition. Much of this news was lost amidst the continual inundation of ire, fear, sadness and media inspired diffidence.

Over the years many of us managed to miss some really cool stuff. A new fossil whale that may have hunted sharks. Man's earliest god, (this one's up Sunni's alley!). Recent flooding on Mars and so much more. U.S. life expectancy is up. All of this wonderful stuff, as well as some not so wonderful stuff gets buried by the doom and gloom, politics and waste that spews forth from the media and the state.

As I said before, it's easy to let it all get you down so this year let's spread a new viral. One that lets us, and others look at things in a different light. 2006 had quite a few low points for us and 2007 will likely offer many more, given that most of the perpetrators of misery are still out and about. Maybe we'll all be accused of being Pollyanna-ish, but it sure beats letting them turn us into Gollum, hiding in the darkness clutching our sparse morsels of precious freedom, waiting and wishing for disaster to strike. It already seems to be going around, so now all we have to do is fan it along. Here's to an infectious New Year!
